What
is ICP?
The
ICP is an autonomous international association with a scientific
goal (Association internationale à but scientifique,
AIBS), endowed with its own legal status and administered
by a board including four representatives
of the UCL. The ICP is governed by a directorate
of three institute scientists. An international scientific
council of four members oversees the quality of
the investigations and of the recruitment.
The
ICP is based on three principles:
- priority
to basic research and to the freedom of the investigators;
- obligation
to help in developing beneficial applications of discoveries
- multidisciplinary
collaboration within a critical mass of competences, instruments
and techniques.

Facilities
The ICP is a
multidisciplinary research institute which is situated on the Brussels campus of the "Université catholique de Louvain" (UCL). This campus is located at the rim of Brussels near the east side of the circular motorway that surrounds the city with easy connections to the major motorways into Germany, The Netherlands and France. The Brussels International Airport is located at a distance of 10 min by car. Three subway stations guarantee a direct connection with the centre of the city (15 min). This campus also houses several other pre-clinical research institutes belonging to the medical faculty of the UCL, St. Luc, a 900-bed hospital, central library facilities, central animal house facilities, a subsidised university restaurant, student dormitories, private housing facilities, a bank, a postal office and many little shops. The two towers of the ICP houses in total ten floors with laboratory space and accommodate some 300 people, 200 of which are researchers. The ICP disposes of its own central administration, specialized library, pleasant and fully-equipped 45-seats "Michel de Visscher" lecture hall, and its own fully equipped workshop. There is a protected carpark as well. The bus stops in front of the building.
